      Fostering and encouraging vocations to the priesthood is absolutely necessary for salvation. Each of us is responsible for remaining alert to the possibility of a call to the vocation in any of our men. Also, even outside the Church some hear that call, as today some men continue to enter the priesthood through a conversion from the Protestant.   When he had his conversion and sought the Priesthood many places once they knew his history turned him down but the Marians of the Immaculate Conception took him in. He has been a Priest there for MANY years and has given many talks and written books and is .

    Also, I know that for myself and many others, authentic Christ-centered friendships are what help lead others to conversion and to deeper faith. Having friends who will encourage you to pursue a vocation and give yourself to Christ in whatever way He may be calling you can help significantly.   First, vocation is for our own conversion. I am privileged to listen to many people seeking and being found by God here. I’m learning about vocation from listening to guests on retreat, walking with Interns in their immersion alongside us, and in friendship with a former Brother.

Every vocation is lived “with” some other person – a diocese, a religious order, a spouse, and therefore, discernment within that vocation is one that is very wrapped up with that other. I did and it was an eye opener. Ever since then I have found it difficult to complain about the sacrifices of my vocation and the constant call to conquer self. Unless we embark on a life of continuous conversion without respite, selfishness will dominate us and ruin our beautiful vocations.
